The vision of the Mmametlhake Family Care Centre was formed in September 2001.
A team including Doctor Willie Tsaku from Mmametlhake Hospital and representatives from the Foundation for Medical Relief in South Africa from the U.S. met with spiritual leaders from the target area. Their discussion focused on the medical and spiritual needs of people living in the north western third of the Mpumalanga Province – approximately 3000 square kilometers. A common vision to establish a Family Care Centre empowering under-served villages emerged.
The Centre would provide preventative education as well as practical support and care to address the needs of the area’s people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.
